ADULT DESCRIPTION AND VARIATION

A small species which is variable in the colour and shape of the forewings, which have variably cut outer margins. The genitalia and mtDNA barcodes of the darker populations from Sichuan, described by Brechlin (2002) as Lepchina plutenkoi, confirm it to be Dahira kitchingi. That the specimens from Sichuan came from a higher altitude than the type series of D. kitchingi may explain their darker colour and the slight phenotypic differences between the two populations (Haxaire, Melichar & Manjunatha, 2021).

ADULT BIOLOGY

Occurs at between 1600 and 3200m altitude.
